Why Astrology?

I have always been interested in Astrology. I believe that the stars above do have an influence on the inhabitants and events on Earth. As a sun sign Virgo, I could see the personality quirks that were associated with that sign and how they manifest in my thoughts, words, and behaviors. I’ve naturally been drawn to other Virgos, but I noticed that we were all a bit different.

Once I started to study astrology (2014), I realized that there are other important placements that defined me as well. For example, Capricorn Rising Sign supports my belief that if I wanted something bad enough that I had to work for it. I felt like if something came easy, it would go away easily, too. I don’t mind working hard for something.

My Moon in Sagittarius is indulging and let’s just say I’ve matured a bit and recognized how this has affected me. I like to eat with emotions, good or bad ones. There’s nothing better than Lays Potato Chips when I’m sad.

The more astrology books I read, the more I realized that I needed a structured study plan. I have a lot of mutable placements in my chart, and I bounce around a lot. Also, I couldn’t grasp the blending of significations, I needed a good foundation. The books I read were more of a cookbook-style astrology book, meaning that they provided the significations. I wanted to learn how to come up with significations, without needing to memorize other’s significations.

Honestly, I would love it if I could glance at a chart and intuitively know the person’s behaviors and future, and help guide them to a happier, product life. But I cannot. I am not psychic or naturally intuitive when it comes to reading charts, or much anything else.

In 2023, I took the financial risk of taking an astrology course. The course that I resonated with the most was Chris Brennan’s Hellenistic Astrology Course. I chose this one because I wanted a good foundation to read and understand chart placements, the cost benefit of dollars to hours appealed to me, and I could complete this course on my own time schedule. I completed the course 9 months later.  

Chris Brennan has a strong presence in the astrological community, and I like his approach. He is logical, thorough, and supports significations that he identifies. He supports his students and patrons with monthly podcasts that are relevant to current transits, as well as continuing education for all. Often, he interviews other astrologers, always being a gracious host, promoting them.

The more I have learned about Astrology, I realize there is a lot more to learn. I’ve also had a better understanding of human behavior than I used to. I would wonder why others weren’t more like me and ponder, “why the heck do they do the things they do?” Learning astrology has given me that “ah-ha” that not everyone feels, perceives, projects, and responds like me. I will be a “student” of Astrology for a long time, if not for the rest of my life.
